Facebook will now help you nearby public WiFi networks!

According to a report by VentureBeat, Facebook is rolling out a new Public WiFi finder feature in their app. This feature will allow users to find nearby open WiFi to help conserve their precious mobile data in times of great need.

This news comes amidst the recent drive of Facebook in live videos feature, which consumes a great amount of data. It seems that this feature is intended to help users access features like those while making sure they do not burn through their monthly data plan. While talking to VentureBeat on this new feature, an unnamed Facebook spokesperson said:

“To help people stay connected to the friends and experiences they care about, we are rolling out a new feature that surfaces open Wi-Fi networks associated with nearby places.”

This feature was first spotted in wild by Next Web’s social media director, Matt Navarra, which suggests it is available for some users right now through the iOS app. To see access this feature, scroll through your menu options to find “Enable Find WiFi.” If it’s there, toggle the setting so it’s turned on, and the app will detect places nearby with an access point. It will not only show you the business offering free WiFi, but also how long it’ll take to get there and the network you can connect to. To make sure that you connect with the right network, Facebook will show you the exact name of the network.

Availability

There is no official word available for its global availability. However, considering the apparent maturity of the feature, it won’t be far-fetched to expect it to roll out to all users in coming weeks. We will let you know when it is pushed to users in Pakistan.

Nigeria to buy 10 Super Mushshak aircraft from Pakistan!

An agreement for the sale of 10 Super Mushshak aircraft to the Nigerian Air Force was signed between Pakistan and Nigeria on Friday, Pakistani daily, The Dawn reported.

“The contract signing ceremony was held in Abuja (Nigeria) where Air Vice Marshal Iya Ahmed Abdullahi and Air Marshal Arshad Malik, Chairman of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), signed the contract,” The Dawn quoted PAF spokesman Air Commodore Syed Mohammad Ali as saying.

The deal involves the PAC supporting operational training and technical support to the Nigerian Air Force. It would also bolster PAC's image in the aviation sector producing the super aircraft and will help generate revenue for the country.

The Super Mushshak, which is built under license in Pakistan, is already in service with Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iran and South Africa. The deal further strengthens PAC’s status as a world class aviation industry producing the supersonic JF-17 Thunder and Super Mushshak trainer aircraft.

“The Pakistan Air Force would completely establish this facility in the shortest possible time,” PAF spokesman said.

Google drive can now understand natural language!

Are you like most people who save their files and then forget what random string of letters they produced to save it in a hurry? Apparently, this is a big problem with people using Google drive too. Google is introducing an improvement in its search to help such users and others in locating their files more easily. You will now be able to find your files using natural language in your search terms.

What it means that you will be able to type in questions like “find all the presentations about the fiscal year 2017” or “show all files save in the month of January.” Google drive will parse the question and then ask you for confirmation about the interpretation of your search term. If everything seems OK, it will be able to show you relative documents without the need of typing in precise and exact technical terms.

Another way in which Google drive will assist a lost user is through auto corrects in search results. So if you type in a word or two incorrect and meant to write “word files” instead of “wood flies”, Google drive will auto-correct it for you just like regular Google search does.

In addition to these changes, Google docs also gain the ability to split a document into multiple columns. Also, it will be able to auto-save any non-Google file while you are working on it.

All these features are currently in the process of the Global roll-out and should be coming to Pakistani Google drive users within a few days.

Pakistan at RoboCup 2016

On third attempt, a team of students from NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology) will be representing Pakistan at the RoboCup which begins shortly. This feat has been a long time in the making and has finally been brought to fruition. Team NUST is the only team to be selected from Pakistan and also the only team from South Asia to have qualified for the RoboCup. They will be competing against 27 other teams in the Standard Platform League Competition. The week-long event will be held from June 30th to July 4th in Leipzig, Germany.
RoboCup is an annual international event which is basically a robot football world cup. It was first held locally in Osaka, Japan but due to huge outside interest the competition was taken to an international level. The Standard Platform League focuses more on the software aspect of the robots. Essentially, all teams are provided with exactly the same robots but their performance is judged based on the Artificial Intelligence code that runs them. The main qualifying criterion for this competition is to prove that your robot is able to make decisions based on Artificial Intelligence.
The team from NUST, under the leadership of Dr. Yasar Ayaz, has qualified two times previously. They were not able to participate in the tournament because of lack of funds – these robots don’t come cheap! The six robots, which they purchased from France’s Aldebaran Robotics, cost them a whopping $17,000. However, this year their efforts did not go in vain. The university was able to allocate enough money to fund the trip for three of the team members.
The Standard Platform League Competition is scheduled for June 30th. We wish Team NUST the very best! Till then, have a look at the project that got them selected for this year’s RoboCup!

"To bring married women back to workplaces", NetSol Technologies launches campaign

NetSol Technologies, one of top 500 software houses of the world as ranked by Forbes Magazine, is taking an initiative to encourage mothers back to work. The organization has opened job opportunities exclusively for women, providing them with essential on-office facilities as per a campaign which focuses on bringing women especially moms back to work.

The press release stated that a campaign aiming to inspire young mothers and housewives to return to work has been in function since, 10th June 2016. The campaign was focusing on bringing women back to work by offering them a sound working structure. A study was being conducted, hence, which brought to light the factors responsible for the thinning down of gender diversity up the ladder of leadership hierarchy. The study revealed that about 90% of women stepped out of their jobs either when they get married or when they have their first child. Further such issues were investigated and highlighted as part of that study

Recognizing the far-reaching advantages of gender diversity, NetSol Technologies has taken to resolving the issues responsible for its poor index in a workplace. A supportive working environment has been in place to make sure that no woman finds it hard to return to the workforce after their marriage or after the birth of their first child.

Aiysha Munir, Manager QE at NetSol Technologies, while highlighting the issue said,

“The reason I have been able to continue my job at NetSol is largely due to the availability of daycare. It makes a huge difference for mothers to know that their children are being taken care of and as the daycare is in close proximity, it is easier to check in on them at least once during the office hours.”

The software house now houses a daycare, with proper support staff and a teacher to train the children in their initial years. A high-quality gaming zone and a gymnasium have also been made functioning. Extra-Curricular Activities are being made an integral part of the routine of working women.

It also has an exclusive cafeteria which serves fresh and hygienic food to all staff free of cost. Pick and drop facility has also been provided for women. The medical facility is also an added advantage.

NetSol is a workplace which is a well-known name when it comes to giving all the factors its due importance. It basically is a global provider of IT and Enterprise Software Systems and provides solutions to clients in USA, Pakistan, England, Thailand, China, Australia, and Japan. NetSol also was featured in the Forbes list of ‘500 best software companies to work for in 2015’ and has won the P@SHA Award for Gender Diversity in 2014, making it the best company with the best gender diversity ratio in the IT industry of Pakistan.

As the advanatage of gender diversity are being brought to light, the initiatives are also being taken and it is expected that a great number of moms shall take advantage of these facilities.

Any mother who is looking to join their workforce should just dust her CV and send it to NetSol at moms.careers@netsoltech.com

'Game of Thrones' left out an important scene 2 seasons ago — and fans are still feeling the ramifications

If you've been bored with Tyrion and Jaime Lannister's scenes in "Game of Thrones" recently, there's a very simple reason why. Back in season four, the show left out a pivotal confrontation between the brothers.

Ever since Jaime helped Tyrion escape to Essos, we've watched as the youngest Lannister child bantered his way to Meereen. Now he is helping to rule, but Tyrion's scenes haven't been the most compelling.

Jaime spent season five and now the first chunk of season six trying his best to get into Cersei's good graces. First he went on a fruitless "Myrcella rescue mission" to Dorne, only to return with her dead body.

Now, he's stuck firmly by Cersei's side, claiming that no one else in the world is as important as them — a slight 180 from the complicated and remorseful Jaime we saw in season three.

We haven't seen this side of Jaime in a long time.

From a book reader's point-of-view, the lack of compelling material from both Jaime and Tyrion's recent storyline stems from the season four finale. Remember, Jaime helped Tyrion escape prison after he lost his trial by combat. Instead of going to find Varys immediately, Tyrion veered off course to murder both Shae (his former lover) and his father Tywin.

An enormous series of revelations was left out of this scene — one that involved Tyrion's first wife and Cersei's unfaithful history with Jaime.

George R.R. Martin's important backstory

In both the show and the books, Tyrion has a tragic history with marriage. When he was a teenager, he met a young girl while traveling with Jaime. She was poor, a lowborn named Tysha. But her and Tyrion fell in love quickly, and got married before Tywin knew they had met.

Tyrion told Bronn and Shae about Tysha in season one.

When he heard the news, Tywin was furious. Jaime revealed to Tyrion that Tysha was actually a prostitute, hired by Jaime because he thought Tyrion could use the confidence boost. For Tywin, having his highborn son marry a prostitute was a great shame. He punished Tyrion by having him watch as each of his soldiers raped Tysha and gave her "payment" for her services. Tyrion had to rape her last.

Throughout the books, while readers are in Tyrion's point-of-view chapters, he thinks of Tysha with a sort of wistful shame. He truly believed their love was real, and it pains him to think back on how young and foolish he was. This is part of what makes his relationship with Shae so complex and tragic in its own way.

And so we come to his escape in the third book, "A Storm of Swords." The chapter is written from Tyrion's perspective, and begins with Jaime unexpectedly coming to his prison cell at 3 a.m. to break him out. But when Tyrion shows gratitude, Jaime admits a terrible truth to him.

Jaime always had a soft-spot for his little brother.

When Tyrion thanks Jaime for his life, his brother only says it was a "debt" he owed. Tyrion presses for more information from Jaime, sensing something is off. Here's how the scene plays out in the books:

Jaime is afraid. "Tell me," Tyrion said again.

His brother looked away. "Tysha," he said softly.

"Tysha?" His stomach tightened. "What of her?"

"She was no whore. I never bought her for you. That was a lie that Father commanded me to tell. Tysha was ... she was what she seemed to be. A crofter's daughter, chance met on the road."

Tyrion could hear the faint sound of his own breath whistling through the scar of his nose. Jaime could not meet his eyes. Tysha. He tried to remember what she had looked like. A girl, she was only a girl, no older than Sansa. "My wife," he croaked. "She wed me."

"For your gold, Father said. She was lowborn, you were a Lannister of Casterly Rock. All she wanted was the gold, which would make her no different from a whore, so ... so it would not be a lie, not truly, and ... he said that you required a sharp lesson. That you would learn from it, and thank me later ..."

"Thank you?" Tyrion's voice was choked. "He gave her to his guards. He made me ... watch." Aye, and more than watch. I took her too ... my wife ...

Tyrion thought he could trust Jaime — until he learned the truth.

Tyrion is rightfully horrified by this news. All along he believed he was unlovable and only good for his money and family name. Now he knows that he was once loved, and by an innocent young woman who he helped gang rape just because his father didn't approve.

Before Jaime gives Tyrion the keys to escape, he asks for a truth of his own. Jaime wants to hear from Tyrion himself whether or not he was responsible for Joffrey's death — the crime of which is was accused. Tyrion's reply is not altogether truthful, but instead aims to emotionally wound Jaime:

You poor stupid blind crippled fool. Must I spell every little thing out for you? Very well. Cersei is a lying whore, she's been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know. And I am the monster they all say I am. Yes, I killed your vile son.

No, Tyrion didn't really kill Joffrey. But he takes this opportunity to tell Jaime about Cersei's recent sexual escapades in King's Landing. While Jaime was off at war and being held prisoner, Cersei was not faithful to him. She slept with Lancel Lannister, their cousin, as well as a man named Osmund Kettleblack. Tyrion throws the name of a court jester, Moon Boy, in there just for good measure.

Tyrion's revenge

Then Tyrion leaves Jaime and decides to go find his father. This new information about Tysha has made it impossible for Tyrion to escape without punishing the man who ruined his life. Tyrion finds Shae in his father's bed, kills her, and then sets off with a crossbow to find Tywin.

Tyrion killed his father with a crossbow in the privy.

In the books, Tyrion just wants one thing from Tywin — he wants to know what happened to Tysha.

"What did you do with Tysha?"

"Tysha?"

He does not even remember her name. "The girl I married."

"Oh, yes. Your first whore."

Tyrion took aim at his father's chest. "The next time you say that word, I'll kill you."

"You do not have the courage."

"Shall we find out? It's a short word, and it seems to come so easily to your lips." Tyrion gestured impatiently with the bow. "Tysha. What did you do with her, after my little lesson?"

"I don't recall."

"Try harder. Did you have her killed?"

His father pursed his lips. "There was no reason for that, she'd learned her place ... and had been well paid for her day's work, I seem to recall. I suppose the steward sent her on her way. I never thought to inquire."

"On her way where?"

"Wherever whores go."

Tyrion's finger clenched. The crossbow whanged just as Lord Tywin started to rise. The bolt slammed into him above the groin and he sat back down with a grunt. The quarrel had sunk deep, right to the fletching.

Tywin was brought down by the one he never loved.

With Tywin dead, Tyrion leaves to find Varys and the sets off for Essos. The glory of his escape is marred by the knowledge of Tysha's true identity, and the vindictive murders Tyrion committed in the wake of his shock.

For the next two published books, both Tyrion and Jaime's character arcs are set on a new course. Jaime dwells frequently on their final conversation, often thinking about what Tyrion told him: "She's been f---ing Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know."

Jaime's relationship with Cersei begins to fray. He has loved his twin sister all his life, and never slept with another woman. Jaime believed Cersei had the same level of devotion to him, only to learn that while he suffered and fought his way back to King's Landing, she was sleeping with other men. In the subsequent books, he leaves King's Landing and travels in the Riverlands. When he learns about Cersei's imprisonment by the Faith, he ignores her pleas for help.

For Tyrion, the quote that haunts him are his father's last words: "Wherever whores go." During his travels in Essos, he thinks it to himself and asks random strangers "Where do whores go?" Tyrion is tormented and pained and thrown into a deep depression and alcoholic state. So far in the books, he hasn't recovered entirely.

"Where do whores go?"

The show's version of events

In "Game of Thrones," viewers watched as Jaime entered Tyrion's cell, and led him toward Varys — just as it happens in the books. But when Tyrion thanks him for saving his life, Jaime simply hugs his little brother and says, "Quickly now."

No Tysha admission, no catastrophic reveal, no reason for Tyrion to lash back with the truth about Cersei. Jaime goes on his way none the wiser about Cersei's unfaithfulness, and Tyrion leaves for Essos with his brotherly love intact.

Yes, season five's Tyrion was relatively nihilistic and drunk. But he seems to sober up (relatively speaking) when he meets Daenerys. The show's version of Tyrion's journey is much faster, and he evolves past a state of depression within a few episodes. Now in season six, he is the confident and witty Tyrion we've grown used to. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, it is a little on the uninteresting side.

Jaime — on the other hand — has become a very one-note character on the show.

This isn't the complex and redemptive Jaime book readers hoped to see.

Osmund Kettleblack is not a show character, but Lancel Lannister definitely is. Yet, as far as the audience can tell, Jaime has no idea that Cersei slept with him. Instead — Jaime has been throwing himself at Cersei since the end of season four, trying to get back into her good graces.

Cersei sends him to Dorne to rescue Myrcella — a plotline completely invented for the show. And now Jaime returned to King's Landing and learned about Cersei's imprisonment but doesn't know all the details. One of the crimes Cersei was charged with was adultery and incest — with her cousin Lancel. But Jaime has no idea.

Instead of having Jaime disillusioned and separating himself from the disaster Cersei created in King's Landing, the show-version of his character is sticking by her side.

Now what?

Again and again, book readers have waited to see Jaime break away from Cersei on the show. Will it happen? Only showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss know for certain. Right now in season six, Jaime is helping Cersei plot against the High Sparrow, the one man who knows about Cersei's fornication.

Cersei has the full support of Jaime. For now, we hope.

Will the High Sparrow clue Jaime in on the truth? Will Cersei admit it herself? With the show establishing its own canon again and again, book readers are left in the dark. There's still a chance we'll see Jaime go through another character transformation and leave his twin sister's side.

As for Tyrion, the show seems set on not revisiting Tysha. He's settled into a life in Meereen, and is ruling over the city while Daenerys is off winning the hearts of the Dothraki. His murder of Shae and Tywin isn't visibly haunting him, and neither is the memory of his first wife.

Though many book readers have given up on seeing Tyrion learn about Tysha, hopes are still hung on Jaime. The next episode, "The Door," has no mention of Cersei or Jaime in the description, so we may have to wait several weeks before seeing the fallout of their planned attack on the High Sparrow. Tune in Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO to see if we ever get the Jaime storyline fans have been hoping for.

You should never say 8 things to a Programmer!

If you have ever met a programmer, you know they are just a different breed. A race of people capable of making sense from utter gibberish, they are the ones who are capable of turning anything and everything into computer programs. Want to add a few numbers? Make a program. Want to create some fancy animations? Make a program. Want to add a few numbers and display them in some fancy new animations? You guessed it, make a computer program.

These are the people who type out lines and lines of unintelligible text, curse it for an hour, drink one cup of coffee, curse it some more and then type even more. In the end, it’s the caffeine-fuelled, sleep-deprived piece of flesh that wins the war of man vs machine and convinces the holy gates of logic to bend down to his or her will.

Programming is a one of a kind job and it has one of a kind issues and that is why there are some things that a programmer shouldn’t be bothered with. Here are 9 things you should never ever say to a programmer,

  • Can you explain exactly what your code does?
Are you a programmer? No? Then, NO. No, he can’t. No, she can’t. No, THEY can’t. Programming is complex, it is weird, it is mind-boggling. There are uncountable conditions that need to be satisfied, infinite(nearly) number of loops and infinite loops in those infinite loops that have been arranged to achieve the desired result. It’s all one big whole messed up organism that takes a good deal of focus and a lot of time to get your head around. The amount of logic that has to be put in takes a lot of understanding. And, if you aren’t aware of the concepts of programming, don’t even think about asking this question.

“The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late.”
~ Seymour Cray
  • But you’re a GIRL!
It’s the 21st century! Grow up! Women everywhere are breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes. Despite the unnervingly overwhelming gender disparity in the computer industry(and Silicon Valley in general), programming isn’t just a guy thing. You know who wrote the very first computer program? Ada Lovelace. She is officially and rightfully known as the first computer programmer ever, and even has a whole programming language named after her.

So know that the next time you want to “exert” your masculinity through code, remember that the very foundation of it was established by a woman and one of the brightest mathematicians ever to walk on the face of the earth.
  • Can you fix my PC?
A programmer is the one who deals with the things that happen inside the machine within the realms of software. What happens outside with tangible components like the CPU, keyboard, and mouse aren’t accessible to the brain of a conventional programmer – unless they have studied electronics, which many haven’t. So kindly resist the temptation of bothering the programmer with things that are out of his or her reach.

“A programmer is not a PC repair man.” — Ritesh Kumar Gupta
  • Can you change this background. *Changes background* Wait no, I liked the previous one!
This is top on the list of the programming headaches. The guy handling the code has to move mountains to make the required optimizations and make the code adapt to the new changes. So if you have asked to make a certain change, better make sure that you are sure on that one. Make up your mind, please. Take a moment and decide the exact changes you have to make and save the programmer a good deal of trouble.
  • Can you make things bounce around and make it prettier?
The bouncing and animating part is one of the easiest and most useless things to do. As a programmer friend of mine, may put it, “A complete disregard from client’s end to comprehend the back-end of a system. The famous if-I-can’t-see-it-bouncing-and-dancing-away-on-the-website-or-an-app-it-isn’t-work. Seriously, guys. Making things bouncing and dancing is the easiest part of the job.

It can be exceedingly irritating to hear that if something doesn’t contribute much to the front-end of a/n website/app and to the main user-interaction, it doesn’t matter. In reality, it matters, a lot! Let the pros handle this one.
  • I actually know a bit of code myself, and I was thinking you could…
There is no such things as a bit of code(no pun intended). Either you know most of it and are capable of learning things you don’t know and doing it all yourself, or you can just as well get someone else to do it altogether. But do keep in mind that the latter case comes with a packaged-programmer with a strict “No recommendations if you’re not a programmer” policy, so if you bother to violate that one, you’ll have to suffer the consequences.

Just as you’re usually not impressed when we brag about how much we know about computers, we’re not impressed when you brag about how little you know about them.
~ Macleod Sawyer
  • Isn’t it a Sunday? Leave your computer alone for once!
This is a hard one because there is no easy way to explain that a good Sunday for us(or most programmers) is a nice little session of coding on projects we love and want to do for ourselves. Headphones on, a cup of simmering coffee and no other errand to run; the perfect Sunday.
  • Why do you love Coffee so much?
Programming and coffee-addiction go hand in hand. A programmer without coffee is like HTML without CSS; it would work but it would be pathetic. Okay, that’s a bad example but you get my point(at least programmers do). But here’s a little secret, not all programmers are addicted to the caffeine-infused brown liquid. It’s more of a stereotype, but not really a bad one so we don’t really mind it. Programming requires a truckload of concentration and coffee is only more than ready to supply it. That’s about it!

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed drinks in the world. In U.S. alone, approximately 83% people drink coffee but since programming is known as one of the most intensive and concentration-demanding tasks, only the programmers have the bragging rights to calling it their drink of choice.

Editor’s Note: Don’t judge the writer for judging programmers. He is one of them.
Special Thanks to Basit Saeed in helping with this article.

Pakistan HEC announces university rankings!

Quaid-e-Azam University has been ranked Pakistan’s best university in the general category, according to rankings for 2015 released by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

University of Punjab in Lahore and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) secured second and third positions respectively, as per the HEC as chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmed unveiled the rankings of 129 universities in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The ranking was finalized on basis of quality assurance, teaching quality, research, finance and facilities and social integration and community development. “Community development will be integral part in universities to create the environment of social integration and affiliation,” the HEC chairman said.

In overall ranking, QAU and PU were not a surprise but NUST which secured third spot jumped three spots higher than last year. University of Agriculture, Faisalabad dropped to the fourth position after securing second place last year. Similarly, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology dropped down to sixth position compared to fourth last year.

NUST tops rankings for Engineering & Technology

National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad retained the top slot in the “Engineering & Technology” category, while Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Islamabad remained in second place.

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi emerged on the third spot pushing University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore to fifth place.

Iqra University tops rankings for Business Education

Surprisingly, Iqra University, Karachi emerged as the highest-ranked university in the category of Business Education. The university did not make it to the top five last year. However, the HEC chairman explained, “The university is producing some good number of PhDs and that is why it has been ranked the highest.”

One of the premier software houses in Pakistan, NetSol celebrated its 20th year of Anniversary last week with a lavishly arranged event in the heart of Lahore at the company’s Pakistan headquarter.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the company arranged a mega-event in its only office in Pakistan; the NetSol Technologies Pakistan Headquarters. You can follow it on social media using the hashtag #NetSol20th- while the ones attending the event may have uploaded their best pictures for a chance at free gifts from the company.

A global provider of IT and Enterprise Software Systems, NetSol has clients from all over the globe and offices in USA, Pakistan, England, Thailand, China, Australia, and Japan. The company was co-founded by the Ghauri brothers, including Salim Ghauri, Naeem Ghauri and Najeeb Ghauri exactly two decades ago and today, it stands as one of the biggest IT services company present in Pakistan. Last year, it also hit the news for being featured in Forbes’ list of top 500 best software companies to work for with an 84% employee-recommendation rate. A few months later, it accomplished another huge feat by signing a contract worth $100 million for its NFS Ascent services.
But NetSol is much bigger than being just a software services company; it has its own incubator program for Pakistani startups, called NSpire. Launched last year, it is a 5-month incubation program for startups, giving them space at NetSol’s own purpose-built facility and allowing them access to NetSol’s vast network and venture capitalists.
Speaking on the launch of NSPIRE, Mr. Salim Ghauri; CEO & Co-Fouder of NetSol said:
“There is so much talent in Pakistan, it just needs to be given an opportunity. A place where young people can convert their dreams in to reality. NSPIRE is NetSol’s initiative to build Pakistan’s first company based incubator in Pakistan.”

Google earned in 9 years what Apple earned in one quarter of iPhone sale!

The revenues and profit figures that Google earns from Android have finally been revealed, and they aren’t as much as one would hope for the world’s most used smartphone operating system.
Even though the company constantly updates the figures for the number of Android users around the world(1.4 Billion as of 2015), the revenues and profits it has earned from the operating system itself have been kept in secret. But thanks to Oracle, we finally know that in the 9 years since the introduction of Android in 2007, the search-giant Google has earned a total of $31 Billion in revenues from its mobile operating system with $22 Billion in profits.
There is an ongoing lawsuit between the two companies, Oracle and Google, about whether Google has been using a modified version of Java to power Android or not. If found guilty, Google could be made to pay around $1 Billion or more in fines to the software giant and in a recent court proceeding of this lawsuit, an Oracle lawyer revealed the exact figures of revenues and profits that Google has managed to earn from its mobile operating system, Android, much to the annoyance of Google and its’ lawyers.
“Google does not publicly allocate revenues or profits to Android separate and apart from Google’s general business,” Google’s lawyers wrote in the filing. “That non-public financial data is highly sensitive, and public disclosure could have significant negative effects on Google’s business.”
The $31 Billion amount is not small by any means, but considering the fact that Apple earned from iPhones in the last quarter of 2015, $32.2 Billion, it appears minuscule in comparison. However, it still isn’t fair to compare the two companies’ revenues because Google only acts as a distributor of Android and sells it as an open-source smartphone operating system to manufacturers, earning only from licencing, app store and search ads. Apple, on the other hand, is a full-scale manufacturer and sells its expensively-priced iPhones around the world.
